Place des Arts is Located in the eastern part of the city’s downtown, between Ste-Catherine and de Maisonneuve Streets, and St-Urbain and Jeanne-Mance streets, in an area now known as the Quartier des Spectacles, the complex is home to the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the Opéra de Montréal.

The Place De Arts was the brain child of then mayor Jean Drapeau, the first section of the complex was completed in 1963 and now boast 6 fine halls of various sizes. There are in total 8000 seats in the complex. The complex houses a number of different theatres and they are all connected by an underground mall. The outdoor plaza is a popular gathering place which features a number of interesting art installations including dancing fountains and sculptures. Even if you are not attending a show or performance, as you walk around the complex you will be able to see various digital artwork and other artistic displays. Place des Arts is the working name of the future Arts Centre that a group of seven francophone organizations plan to build downtown in the next few years.

There is a wide variety of shows available at the Place de Art. Lovers of everything from pop and jazz to classical music will find something to their taste.
